A message from our working group Fossil Free Lund on their upcoming event:
Much like the planet, our Fossil Free Lund campaign is heating up!
If you're interested in divestment or want make a tangible difference in the fight against climate change then this is the event for you!!
We'll be discussing the importance of divestment, what Fossil Free Lund has achieved so far and how you can contribute to make the university stop supporting drilling and burning of fossil fuels.
Staff, students and alumni are all needed to make this campaign a success. Come along and talk to activists about the campaign so far and see what you can do to help make Lund University divest.
The meeting is part of the annual strategy-conference for the national campaign of the Fossil Free movement which FFLund is hosting! So we'll be joined by comrades from Östersund, Gothenburg, Stockholm, and Uppsala to share some of their experiences.
There will be fika!!
IN A NUTSHELL...
-The college holds millions of krona worth of investments
-Recognising both moral and financial arguments, we request that LU make a stand and divest - remove investments - from fossil fuel companies.
THE CAMPAIGN SO FAR...
-People have been signing our petition: https://campaigns.gofossilfree.org/petitions/fossil-free-lund-university
-LU has divested some of it's assets but the lion's share is yet to be divested
-The student nation of Wermlands has divested. We want to help other nations do the same.
-We aim to draw on the wealth of knowledge among students, faculty, alumni, and societies to achieve our goal.
-We hold a lunch meeting every Thursday at 12pm in Geocentrum II
**************Fossil Free LU in the media***************
LU divests 10% of it's investments (2015)
Bill McKibben to FFLU: "They have to keep working. It is important to the world" and "it's hard - many rulers do not want to change. But then people get up and refuse to stop."
